As the Rams of Colorado State meet the Boise State Broncos in Idaho on Thursday, they come in lacking an identity. Neither the pass nor run game has been dominant, though they have found some success there. It does always seem that teams playing on Boise State’s beautiful blue field can put big numbers up on the scoreboard.

And first-year coach Steve Addazio will be hoping his team can do that. Mike Bobo led the team to a 4-8-mark last year and was promptly fired. With a new coach comes a new regime, and picking up signature wins is how you leave your imprint on a season. Can you get up for the games against your rivals, or will you crumble? That’s what the Rams have to deal with.

Boise State and their high-powered offense will be hoping to improve to 3-1 with this win. For all the scoring they do, though, their defense leaves a lot to be desired. Their opponents have been racking up the points, keeping all of their games close. We’ll see how it goes this time.

Colorado State Looks for Upset

Very few bettors would openly tell you they were picking the Rams, whether straight-up or covering the spread. This MWC matchup for them will provide a lot of challenges, and it’s hard to say that in their third game under Coach Addazio, they are ready for it.

Patrick O’Brien has been slinging the ball well overall, firing three touchdowns to zero interceptions over 36 attempts. He’s accumulated 337 yards through the air and picked up one of the team’s two rushing scores. Marcus McElroy (28 att, 55 yds) possesses the other.

Though the Rams have allowed 62 points over their two games so far, the pass-rush has done an incredible job. They have averaged 5.5 sacks, bringing tremendous pressure on the opposing QB’s.

Broncos Looking for Dominant Performance

Boise State is a heavy favorite to win this game, and it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Crazy things tend to happen when they have home games, and this shouldn’t be much different. They muck up the games and make sure they do what they have to come out on top.

Interestingly enough, the team has had three quarterbacks throw the same number of passes. It’s unclear who they will throw out there as the starter, even now. It could be Hank Bachmeier, Jack Sears, or Cade Finnegan. Have you ever followed a team with three potential starting QB’s, going into their fourth game?

Andrew Van Buren and George Holani have combined for 241 rushing yards and four touchdowns thus far. They’ll be leaning heavily on them to carry the offense.

Whoever Starts at QB Will Lead Boise State to Big Win

Is this a sign of disrespect, picking a team with QB uncertainty? No, not really. That’s just how well prepared Boise State will be for this game against Colorado State.
